Placing finished work right side up , fold in both sides in, to meet in the middle. Sew across both ends. 

For the opening sew firt 4 sts together on both ends. 

Turn on the right side.

With 4mm hook , make a magic circle, RD 1--make 6 sc in the circle. RD 2--make 2 sc in each st.=12 sts....RD 3-- make a sc in the *first st and 2sc in the next*, rep to end= 18 sts....RD 4--make a *sc in next 2 sts an make 2 sc in next st* rep. to end =24 sts----RD 5--make a *sc in next 3 sts and 2 sc in next st* rep to end= 30sts,....RD 6-- make a *sc in the next 4 sts and 2 sc in next st* rep to end = 36 sts....RD 7-- make a sc in the next 5 sts and 2 sc in next st, rep to end= 42 sts.....RD 8-- make a *sc in the next 6 sts and 2 sc in next st*, rep to end=48 sts...turn your work around and make a dc decrease through the back loop around= 24 sts-- RD 2--*ch2 skip one st and do a dc in next* rep to end, join in the first ch2 sts.....your coaster should measure close to 9cm
